80th Celebration for Leckpatrick and Dunnalong Mothers’ Union
Leckpatrick and Dunnalong Mothers’ Union celebrated their 80th
anniversary with a special service held in Leckpatrick Parish Church on Monday
26th of March. The preacher and celebrant at the service was Bishop
Ken Good, Bishop of Derry and Raphoe. Bishop Good gave a most moving and
inspiring address. Also in attendance was Mrs Mary Good, Mrs Ruth Mercer, All
Ireland Mothers’ Union President, Mrs Kay Clarke, Derry and Raphoe Diocesan
President and members of Mothers’ Union Diocesan Committee. The invited guests
were representatives from all the local church. The organist was Mrs Edyth
Lovell MBE, soloist Miss Rachael Ewing accompanied by her mother Mrs Carol
Ewing. At the meal which followed the service in the Milliken Hall, the rector
the Revd. Irene Lyttle and Mothers’ Union branch leader Mrs Sylvia Downey gave a
warm welcome to all, but gave special mention to three ladies who received long
service certificates from the Worldwide President Mrs Rosemary Kempsell. The
certificates were presented to Mrs Eleanor McGarrigle for 68 years membership in
Mothers’ Union, Mrs Nancy Olphert for 65 years membership and Mrs Edyth Lovell
MBE for 60 years membership by Mrs Ruth Mercer. Mrs Kay Clarke presented other
members with long service certificates ranging from 25 years upwards.
